September 2016 | Shamanika "Neek" Hocker

GCHS would like to recognize Shamanika “Neek” Hocker as student of the month for her achievements thus far at Garrard County High School. She is a senior on the medical health pathway, where she has been involved in YCC for 2 years.  Neek is an outstanding student with a 3.4 gpa, considering Eastern Kentucky University or Georgetown College and plans to major in Nursing. Not only is Neek a great student, she also is a part of the GCHS volleyball team, works part time at a local restaurant and has been an inspiration to the community by being a great prom date (click on the link to see full story) LEX 18 NEWS.

Her hobbies include reading and talking on the phone. Her favorite quote – “attitude reflects leadership” -  from the movie “Remember the Titans.” Her favorite subject is history. Her favorite classes that has inspired her to pursue the medical field are Intro to health sciences and medical terminology.  

October 2016 | Josh Warren

Josh Warren is recognized as October’s YCC student of the month. Josh is a junior at Garrard County High School where he is on the engineering pathway in YCC/PLTW. Not only is Josh on of the top in his class academically, he also a major contributor in the school in his media class and on the football team. Josh enjoys being with friends and working on computers. He plans to pursue a degree in engineering and working with computers in his career. 

As being recognized as student of the month, Josh also deserves son of the year award as he has been by his mom’s side – Mrs. Tonya Warren a teacher at Garrard Middle School, as she has been battling breast cancer. Thank You Josh for the young man you are!!

November 2016 | Darbi Clark

The Garrard County High School YCC Student of the Month for the month of November is Darbi Clark.  Darbi is a senior and has participated in the YCC Program for two years.  Darbi is on the medical health pathway and is planning to attend the University of Kentucky to obtain a BSN Degree while working as a nurse to gain experience.  The thing she has enjoyed most about the YCC Program is being provided opportunities to learn more about her chosen pathway.

Darbi played soccer during her freshman, sophomore, and junior years at GCHS. Darbi was a member of the highly decorated Garrard County Marching Band during her senior year.  She experienced competing in the state finals as a one year member!  Darbi enjoys taking mission trips, working, and spending time with her family and friends.

December 2016 | Jacob Worley

The Garrard County High School YCC Student of the Month for the month of December is Jacob Worley.  Jacob is a senior and has participated in the YCC Program for two years.  Jacob is on the computer science pathway and is planning to attend Morehead State University to complete the Space Science Program and hopefully eventually be employed in Langely, Virginia. The thing he has enjoyed most about the YCC Program is learning about different careers and which degrees are offered by different universities.

Jacob was a member of the GCHS Football team for two years, and also a member of the Engineering, BETA, and GLAD Clubs.  Jacob enjoys working out, playing video games, working on cars, and both listening to and playing music.

January 2017 | Taylor Playforth

The Garrard County High School YCC Student of the Month for the month of January is Taylor Playforth.  Taylor is a senior and has participated in the YCC Program for two years.  Taylor is on the medical health pathway and is planning to become a nurse.  She wants to work in NICU while working/studying her way to become a physician assistant.  The thing she has enjoyed most about YCC is the opportunities to visit universities and medical practices.

Taylor is an active member in both BETA and FCCLA.  Outside school Taylor enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

February 2017 | Jordan Griffin

The Garrard County High School YCC Student of the Month for the month of February is Jordan Griffin.  Jordan is a senior and has participated in the YCC Program for two years.  Jordan is on the engineering pathway and is planning to attend the University of Kentucky to major in architecture.  The thing he has enjoyed most about the YCC Program is the opportunities he has had to learn more about engineering. 

Jordan is a four year member of the Garrard County High School tennis team.  Jordan has had an opportunity to co-op with AGE Engineering Services during his senior year.  This opportunity has allowed Jordan to operate a Trimble Scanner, drafting on microstation or Bently in-roads.  Jordan enjoys taking tennis lessons and watching UK Basketball.

March 2017 | Drew Delili

The Garrard County High School YCC Student of the Month for March is Drew Delili. Drew is a senior and is participating in YCC for the third year. Drew is following the Engineering and Design Pathway and plans to attend Georgetown College after high school to play baseball and study math and science/physics for three years before transferring to the University of Kentucky to finish his BS in Mechanical Engineering. Drew has enjoyed YCC because it has provided him connections in business/industry that he did not have before.


Drew is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Engineering Club, Garrard Leadership Against Drugs, and the BETA Club. He is also a four year member of the Garrard County High School baseball team. Drew enjoys finding background information on his career path, working in the construction industry roofing or fencing, and tearing down and rebuilding old bikes and toys.

April 2017 | Jacquelyn Canada

The Garrard County High School YCC Student of the Month for April is Jacquelyn Canada.  Jacquelyn is a junior and this is her first year participating in YCC. Jacquelyn is on the medical health pathway and plans to attend EKU after high school graduation.  She plans to receive a BS in nursing and gain her RN certification.  She then plans to become a nurse anesthetist. She has enjoyed YCC because she has been able to “experience a taste in the pathway I am interested in.”

Jacquelyn is a member of the GCHS Cheerleading team, science club member and officer, HOSA officer, BETA Club, National Honors Society, FCA, GLAD Club, choir, Student Council, Lion Leaders, and theater.  Jacquelyn enjoys reading, acting, watching YouTube, animated films, and doing theatrical make-up.
